Smallville gets ever closer to the light

Hey guys? Maybe if you weren't all watching TV, you'd notice that Lionel and Lex were wreaking havoc. Besides, watching TV is OUR job!
OK, I'm just going to say it...every episode of Smallville from here until the end of the series should start with Oliver and Chloe making googly eyes at each other. Call me a romantic, call me a punk, but I love a good love story and while Lois and Clark are cute, Chloe deserves a bit more face time. I said it...so sue me. But alas, this week we enter the ville that is Small with the revelation that Lionel has been approving Daily Planet articles without Tess's knowledge. That's right. Tess has been so preoccupied, her other-world daddy has come back to reclaim his fortune and his son. Tess, not so much. But ironically, she is the lynch pin in this week's episode.
OMG!!! Can someone just kill Lionel for once and for all!? Puh-leeze!!?? I can't take it anymore. How on Earth do you explain to the world, much less your board of directors, that you're not dead or from an alternate reality? Yet, somehow Lionel is doing just that and Oliver, Tess, and basically all of Watchtower has been oblivious to it. Does it take the entire crew to squash the VRA? Really? (Sigh...)
OK, got that rant off my chest, now on to our regularly scheduled recap...
Mama Kent (aka the Red Queen) is home again, multi-tasking to the hilt. Trying to get the Vigilante Registration Act repealed, while offering support to Clark and Lois. So, she gets shot in the process. It's all in the name of love, after all. And who took the pot shot at her? Well, Alexander of course. The cunning redhead has been skulking in the shadows after fleeing Tess, just to draw out Clark with Kryptonite bullets. Just so happens, Clark wasn't fast enough to get to his mom in time. And while no one until this point could locate Lex (the brooding teen he is), Lionel finds him no problem. And Tess has been looking for him all along? Come on. And why isn't this kid dead? He was supposed to have only days to live without an antidote, but yet he's flourishing without a job and cash? Really? Both are so stealth, father and son Luthor get back into LuthorCorp for a suit fitting without Ollie's knowledge. And Tess is no help. In fact, when Clark learns of the Luthor presence, both she and Oliver want Clark to handle it with his alien abilities. Ummm, yeah...Tess? This is all your fault. YOU thought you could reform Lex. YOU thought your nurture would beat out his nature. No wonder Clark is getting down on himself. He has no real help. If he can't make the hard decisions, shouldn't his hero posse be able to? It's about balance people!!!
The balance is at least trying to be kept by Lex, who subsequently tries to burn Lionel to death alongside Mrs. Kent. But Clark saves both -- the former reluctantly. And just when Lex has Clark in his sights to kill him, Tess talks him out of it. Love wins this battle, but the war rages on inside a faltering brain that can barely hold on to memories. Luckily, Tess comes to her senses and tries to kill Lex when his back is turned. Unfortunately the needle in which the cyanide was to be administered is bent when it encounters Lex's dermatological makeup. Again...how can you be both dying and indestructible? How?
At least we end on a happy note...Clark realizes he's not alone thanks to Lois and Chloe going all grassroots for a Blur blog that shows real people thanking the everyday heroes of the world. Clark finally is getting the impetus he needs to don the dorky disguise and come into his own. His mom and Chloe have come to an understanding that both had to leave his life in order to ensure he could stand on his own. And now with the blessing of his mom, the knowledge of the future, and the Vigilante Registration Act repealed, Clark can finally step into the light for his close-up. Or as Mama Kent says: "Clark? You are the light!" Enough ego there mom?
Watchtower is back up, so what now? Chloe is back, Mom is back...we just need a proper wedding and we can wrap this puppy up. Until next week...
