Life Unexpected: Meet The Grandparents

But we have to admit they added some new twists - like the tough-looking boyfriend whose heart is in the right place, the teenage daughter who's genuinely more grown up than the parents, and the crazy therapist aunt. Fun!
More seriously, we were enchanted as we watched as Cate figured out it doesn't work to make unilateral decisions for the family and Baze figured out how to stand up to his dad. And how adorable was it that Lux invited them over to meet her "family" at the end of the episode? The hot dogs on the grill were a great touch as was the fatherly posturing from Baze in Bug's general direction.
However, why did it take them a week to realize Lux was enrolled in a fairly crappy school? We noticed the homeless guy and graffiti in the last episode. You would think Baze might have been a little more concerned as he dropped her off and picked her up every day for a week... but maybe he's supposed to be a bit out of touch with reality in general.
Also, some line in the premiere made us think Baze inherited the building where his bar is. We were surprised to see his father alive and well in this episode and being a jerk - though we wonder what the business deal really is between father and son.
On the other hand, we loved seeing Lux use her life savings to pay the rent on the bar and take an opportunity to tell off her grandfather. Yay! Way better than threatening to run away to Mexico or suffer in silence. We love strong female characters! And we loved Baze telling her she doesn't always have to be the grownup anymore. There was a lot of "Awwwww!" going around our viewing. Thanks Life Unexpected!
Lines we loved:
Math: Look, if Lux is what pushed him over the edge enough to threaten to take the bar back, why don't you do something to fix it?
Baze: That's a great idea, Doc. Why don't you fire up the DeLorean? I'll grab the condoms and we'll head back to the 90's.
Baze: Yes, I am her dad. So back it up little dude.
Lux: Relax, we're just hanging out.
Baze: Hanging out? That's how you hang out? You let some random guy suffocate you with his mouth?
Lux: He's not some random guy.
Cate: Wait, is this Bug? The boyfriend?
Baze: You knew about this?
Cate: No, only that his name was Bug.
Baze: A guy named "Bug" didn't raise some concerns?
Ellen (frantically waving a box): CostCo was a zoo, but we got the wine!
Abby: Yeah, that would be really messy if Baze was my high school crush, your baby-daddy and Mom's fifth husband.
Comments
I so agree with you on the gilmore girls-ism of this new tv show. And from what i've seen, I love it. It's clever (at much as a tean soap can be), funny and cute. And there are great lines (although not as good as Gilmore Girls).
Go on posting on that show, it's really worth it.
