Reaper: Rat Race
Looking quite spiffy in a suit and tie, Sam finds it hard to maneuver through the cutthroat ways of high-powered executives. As a fish out of water, Sam inadvertently crushes the career of one of his colleagues and drives the man to commit suicide by jumping out of the window in Sam's new office. Now that's a heck of a first day. Instead of being questioned by police about the man's death, Sam actually gets promoted. This action could be considered strange until we find out the 75th floor of the building is devoted to sin. In a war room-type setup, the Devil's minions control the company's lower levels and tempt all within the building's four walls to commit devious actions.
Most importantly, this hallowed 75th floor contains a portal to hell, which Sam desperately needs to rescue his father. Seems Mr. Oliver has found the secret to getting Sam out of his deal with the Devil. Now, Sam just needs to break his dad out. Humans can't pass over the threshold into the fiery gates, so the crew convinces a reluctant Nina to go instead. It must be nice having a demon at your disposal when these kinds of situations arise.
Things are going swimmingly until Sam gets fired and loses his key-card access to the 75th floor. This must be the only place where you can get canned for the higher-ups finding out that you really didn't help kill a co-worker. Sock, Sam and a shirtless Ben (who knew what lurked underneath those buttoned-up polo shirts?) follow the big boss to the sauna and steal his golden keycard from his locker so they can retrieve Nina and Mr. Oliver from the portal. They make it just in time but only Nina returns with a note written in demon-speak. Seems Mr. Oliver has some unfinished business to attend to in hell. But what's with the encrypted note? Where are they going to find a demon fluent in the ancient language? Will we ever find out the way in which Sam might actually beat the Devil?
This episode mainly served as a bridge to next week's finale, but there were a few quaint moments between Sock and Ben that never fail to ignite the giggles. Just the mental image of Sock and Ben cutting each others' hair like girls at a sleepover is enough to make up for this hour's lack of resolution. And Sock trying to construct the perfect girl for Nina's demon friend to morph into was just the kind of thing we've come to expect from Sock. When will he ever learn that looks aren't everything?
