OTH Season1 Podcast - You Gotta Go There to Come Back

Sarah and I are missing Jackie (but not as much as some of you miss her sense of reason) as we podcast our way through season 1 of One Tree Hill. Poor Jackie missed this episode, You Gotta Go There to Come Back, we knew she was excited to see Lucas and Brooke get busted with condoms and whipped cream by Deb.

Still, this one wasn't our favorite. Thank goodness for Jake and little baby Jenny making an appearance - we're happy he decided to take her to the open mic night. What did you think of this episode? Let us know in the comments. Also, don't forget you can add us as a friend on Facebook now!

Alyssa said this and I completely agree!!!:

On the other hand, I would probably do the same thing after seeing how happy her friend was with a guy that she cares about. I think that Peyton thought that Brooke was just messing around with Lucas and she would never fall for him, so I think hearing Brooke say how happy she is makes Peyton a little apprehensive to tell her the truth.

Also just so you guys know...you were wondering if that song in Haley's room was Bethany Joy...it is a song called "Everything" by FeFe Dobson! :)

About Brooke asking Peyton about Lucas - she always adds a little emark at the end of her question to let Peyton know that if she actually does like him it would hurt Brooke. For example, "I would never let a guy come between us..(pause)..no matter how happy he makes me" WTH! Oh yeah, your best friend is going to say stop going out with him because I have feelings for him after that! Earlier "we didn't do much talking after you left if you know what I mean" - if Peyton did have feelings doesn't Brooke realize that's like rubbing salt into a wound! Sorry, but, I don't buy that she gave Peyton any fair opportunity to be truthful without repercussions.

ohh yeaah It'll be awesome if
guys are able to start podcasting Supernatural!
the 3 seasons are great!
I can only imagine your comments on the
episodes! LOL

A Smallville podcast will be
rad too, but too many seasons I guess

David, you'll be happy (I think) to know that we're definitely going to try to make some time for a Supernatural season 1 podcast. I will most likely cover my eyes for half of the show, but I'm sure I'll be able to hear everything happening.

I just listened to a few of the podcasts and they were all amazing! I'm glad you guys are being completely honest because it's just making the podcasts so much more fun to listen to.

As far as the triangle is concerned- I don't necessarily think any of you will become diehard shippers of any couple other than maybe Naley, but I do see you supporting Brucas, or maybe just Brooke over Peyton. I'm thinking this because so far you 3 are basing your own opinions on what actually happens and not what we're supposed to believe. I don't see you guys giving into the whole "they're meant to be... but we wont actually show you why, it's just assumed... you know, cause they're both emo and like to brood... uh, and because he had a crush on her when he was in jr. high... he also probably thought Britney Spears was hot but since Peyton's a little less messed up than Britney right now, him and Peyton are meant to be" explanation.

I wasn't sure if you'd be able form opinions without factoring in what we know of season 5 (that season might as well belong to a different show considering how many facts from the other seasons they've completely ignored) but I was wrong. You guys are commenting on what is happening now. Having that said, I'll be accepting of whatever side you lean towards more, be it BL or Lp as long as you don't play into the everyone-says-LP-are-meant-to-be-so-they-must-be logic. I might not agree with you and on occasion I'll let you know of that but I'll respect your opinions nonetheless.

I'm so excited that you guys are going a little faster now because I really want to hear what you have to say about seasons 2 and 3... and without giving too much away- I totally can't wait for Karen to come back and for all the Brooke Karen bonding coming up!

Keep posting multiple podcasts a week please, lol =)

you guys agree with me. Jake and Peyton = happiness because like you said she's always broody but until Jake comes around she's all happy kinda like what Brooke does for Lucas. I think you guys will love the next couple of episodes.
btw sarah do you have any news on your campaign for the supernatural season 1 podcast?

I know this episode seemed long but when this episode was originally aired the show was on a short hiatus, so they had to put in some things to refresh the viewers memories of what happened in the show before. Well I just have to say I Love you guys, because everything you said about peyton I agree on. Seriously how many times brooke asked her what was up, she had about 20 times to tell brooke how she really felt and she never did. This episode I had a feeling this is where it’s going to go bad for them, because brooke said I would never let a guy come between us. I Believed brooke but I knew peyton didn’t feel the same way, and I was proved right in the seasons to come. Now for her and jake, you’re so right he does make her smile like brooke makes lucas smile but its peyton remember she doesn’t want to be happy. It’s so refreshing to hear mature people comment on these episodes. It’s so obvious that peyton is digging herself in a whole that she can’t get out of. Great podcast guys!!

As always I was so excited for another podcast, but I have to agree that it isn't my favorite episode.

I hope/pray that you guys will be singing another tune concerning B/L/P triangle in the next couple eps. I have to agree that it frustrates me to see Peyton blatantly lie to Brooke.

The Jake storyline is always lovely to see, but I have always thought those two were great friends. Jake and Peyton are cute but I think Leyton is love.

2-3decades!! Haha

I love yalls Keith voice! Haha and Brooke’s!

And it is def Peyton who wouldn’t do the same for her best friend. (then when it happened again, Brooke gave up on Peyton… I guess you’d have to see it)

Soothes the savage… baby!! Haha

A serious head-desk moment! You guys CRACK ME UP!! but I totally feel ya!

Peyton and Jake=LOVE!!

Happiness + relationships WHO KNEW?!

Oh if you only knew Deb’s mistakes… oh, they get pretty good at the end of S1!

Haha I def didn’t notice the chains around Haley’s bed…?

I mean, go whitey.

sadly this podcast seemed short! :C but i laughed like crazy thru so much!! haha!!

i think jackie-less podcasts makes yall funnier! haha no voice of reason and so yall get to just go off on what yall think! haha i love it!!!

cant wait for the next one!!

I just wanna say you guys are hilarious!
But dont worry, this episode may have felt slow and long
but the upcoming ones are really shocking and very good drama headed its way,
but I hope you guys upload the podcasts more frequently! cause you guys
are really funny and analyze things
very good! LOL

Great podcast! I miss Jackie, but you guys are great anyway. You each stand out on your own.

I just wanted to say that Whitey teaches them some other class and he's also in charge of detention. He's not just there for basketball. They kinda show it later on though, so you wouldn't know it yet.

Also, the song was not Bethany's. It was Fefe Dobson's "Everything." It was kind of a "mini-hit" back when the episode aired in 2003. I remember all my friends and I were hooked on it (senior year of high school), and when it played in OTH, we were all freaking out, lol.

I agree with you about Peyton. As I previously said, I WAS a Leyton fan originally, saw Brucas, started to fall in love with them (but still liked Leyton), and then ended up hating Leyton (later on in the season). So at this point, I was getting very angry with Peyton for not doing anything and I was rooting for Brooke and Lucas since they were clearly happy together! Brooke gave Peyton way too many chances. She can not be to blame for the problems with the triangle or their friendship. And she has ALWAYS put Peyton before Lucas. But it seems that Peyton thinks Lucas is "too important" to put Brooke over. In one scene, she tells Lucas something to that effect, like "I'm risking my entire life-long friendship here... that's how much you meant to me." I think it's ridiculous because Peyton is constantly talking about how Brooke has stood by her side through thick and thin since her mom died 7-9 years before. How can this guy that you kissed like twice mean more to you than your best friend?

Even when Brucas is back together in season 3, Peyton promises it's "hoes over bros" forever and that she has absolutely no desire for Lucas. She then suddenly says she wants him again. And Brooke puts Lucas and Peyton over her own wants, yet again. She feels she's keeping them from their "meant to be" love. And you can see in season 4 that it's killing her. She gets better and better at hiding it though.

So yes, it's "hoes over bros" for Brooke. For Peyton, not so much. And I love Peyton when she's not doing things like that to Brooke or when she's not moping in a puddle of her "Lucas tears."

Jake and Peyton were adorable together, and so in love (as you will see). Much like Brooke, he put Peyton's wants before his own. They sacrificed so much for each other. I loved them together and really believed THEY were meant to be. But the actor's contract conflict with ABC lead to his removal from the show. If he hadn't gone, I wouldn't be too surprised if the whole Leyton "meant to be" according to everyone in Tree Hill (lead by, ridiculously enough, Brooke) wasn't there in season 5. But now that his ABC show "October Road" was canceled, I hope he can possibly return to OTH. I just hope ABC doesn't forbid it like they did in season 3 (where he was limited to scattered guest star spots).

I loved Nathan in this episode! I loved how he "made a scene" with Dan.

Gavin Degraw appeared for the first time! That makes this episode special for me. And I love how Whitey and Keith say "it makes you wonder where they're all going."

I hope Jackie is enjoying Italy, we miss her! But that doesn't mean I don't love you two, cause I do. I love to hear what you all have to say. It kinda makes me sad that you are excited for Karen's return and the KK relationship, you will see what happens. I was so happy when Nathan stood up to Dan in this episode.
UGH I don't think I will get started on Peyton cause it will take me on rant big time. But I agree with what you had to say. I think she should have told Brooke what was going on THIS TIME (you will see way I say this time cause there is a point down the line, s3, where Peyton should have kept her mouth shut. She did the wrong thing in both situations, where this one she should have spoke up but didn't and in the one in the future she shouldn't have said anything and she does.) But anyway, Mia you are right, its Peyton you screws up this friendship, not Brooke. You will see Brooke keep that promise, that she wouldn't chose a guy over Peyton, throughout the entire series. Its one of the reasons I love Brooke, she is so selfless and is willing to give up her own happiness for her friends. I can't wait to hear what you have to say about how the whole triangle plays out the rest of the season. Its def. a roller coaster ride. And um Peyton and Jake (Jeyton) LOVE THEM!!! I need BG to come back sooooo bad. I don't want to jump the gun but from the looks of this podcast I will bet that you girls are going to be Naleyers, Brucasers, and Jeytoners. You will see how these 3 relationships are built up and the love in them. I can't wait til you see s2 and s3, they are amazing!!!

I wanted to tell you the story behind Haley's music career. You girls mentioned that you thought that it was Bethany Joy singing at the begining of the episode....it's not. The very first time Haley makes her debut as a singer is in episode 1X15.... and it's an awesome rendition of Elsewhere that Bethany Joy did.....very beautiful, you girls are gonna love it. The story about Haley being a musician came about when Mark heard Joy singing on the set and asked her why she was doing here with them, when she should be making cd'es with the voice she had.... and that's the reason why Mark decided to script the whole "music career" for Haley. Joy beeing a musician was something that marked transfered over to Haley's character.

Since you're Jackie-less... Karen coming back is just a big sad face. Not to completely spoil it, but it makes me so sad that you two are excited for her return.

I didn't understand Peyton and Jake in this episode. I get why she liked him, but it seemed really forced to me for her to be so hurt over the whole Brucas thing and then to look at Jake and be like "hmm..." That didn't work for me.

Overall this episode was pretty suckish. I have this theory, and OTH plays into it perfectly. The episode after a big episode like 109 was, they always are slow and boring. It's like they used up everything they wanted to say and now they are just stalling until another good storyline comes along.

Still no Jackie :( Oh well ... you two are still really hilarious. Little thing I had to mention, the song Mia mentioned thinking it was Bethany isn't from Bethany. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong but if memory serves it was from Fefe Dobson. Could be wrong but I know it wasn't Bethany. Bethany doesn't find the confidence to sing until a few more episodes ... I think after Karen comes back which Sarah is right and you know, something goes wrong. I'm not gonna ruin it for you but it's not good for anyone really especially Karen and Keith's relationship.

Surprised you didn't mention the random performance by Gavin Degraw but glad you mentioned the whip cream and condoms scene. That was funny. Totally hit the nail with Peyton and her complicatedness. I think that's why I was (am) totally on Brooke's side on the big argument you two will later comment on. Peyton is just uggh. And yeah, Deb is just so different now isn't she?

And because I can I'm gonna mention what I thought about the last podcast because I forgot to comment last time. HILARIOUS!!! Absolutely hilarious with the last scene of the second episode with the famous three way stare. So funny. Another thing is with Nathan. With Arms Outstretched is my favourite episode because of his little speech at the end and I think that is some of his best acting. It totally made me tear up. I don't know if you ladies remember but that's the scene he mentioned to the therapist in episode 13 in season 5 of when he first fell in love with Haley. I'm pretty sure here's where you two also noticed that Nathan has a gift with making speeches that redeems him from whatever screw up he did. You'll see a lot more of those. Other than this, another of my favourite of his redemption speeches is in the season 1 finale.

Anyway. Can't wait for the next one!!
