Jared Padalecki vs. Jason Voorhees

Jared PadaleckiJared Padalecki fights demons, witches, vampires and other nasty beasts in his day job as Supernatural's Sam Winchester. So what does he do to relax in his off-time? He chases down hockey-mask-wearing unstoppable killers, of course.

(Come on, Jared -- whatever happened to "I'm going to Disneyland!"?)

Yes, the Hollywood Reporter broke the news that our boy Jared is in final talks to star in a reboot of the venerable Friday the 13th horror franchise. For those who aren't up on their venerable horror franchises, that's the one with the unstoppable killer who wears a hockey mask, as opposed to the unstoppable killer who has a burned face and has blades on his fingers, or the unstoppable killer who wears a Halloween mask and comes out on, well, Halloween.

In the reboot, Jared would star as an investigator who's trying to figure out what's behind all the bloody deaths at Camp Crystal Lake. Whew -- when we heard he was starring, we were afraid he'd be the man behind the mask. Wouldn't that be a waste?

The film is set to be released on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009.

I am happy to see Jared have more movie roles however since this movie has been done so many times I doubt it will do well in the theatre. I will see it even though I know what the movie is about. I still want to support my guys.

Hmm. Well, playing a guy investigating something supernatural should be a pretty familiar role for Jared, at least. I love Supernatural, but, I have absolutely no desire to see yet another horror/slasher film remake.

OMG!! this rox. I'm soooooooo seeing this thing. Jared is hot and whatever hes in, i'm so there. besides, horror films rock!!(im really not into the whole blood, gore, cutting and stuff though!! uh, it creeps me out. ill pretend though! for Jared!!)

Love Jared, and I support his decisions, always. :)

Although I am a little upset that he's in this. Because I'm a huge pansy as far as horror movies go....

J-Pad Fan are you talking about the Kinkade vanity project? Because dude, I'm pretty sure critics are going to be out for blood with this movie and it's sequels. Even if Jared's performance gets a positive notice, this type of project is exactly the kind of schlock anyone who wants to be taken seriously as an actor should probably stay away from. I wonder just how much money Kinkade threw at Peter O'Toole and Marcia Gay Harden to get them to sign on.

The Friday the 13th gig is definitely a better bet for Jared as far as exposure goes because it will be big budget and have tons of hype. But again, these types of movies are rarely a showcase for acting, so it'll get Jared's name out there but I'm not sure it will encourage quality producers and directors to look his way when they're casting around for hot young actors. But good for him for going after such high-profile gig. I guess that's why he had to cancel a couple of his Suprenatural-related interviews during the writer's strike. He may have had to go audition for Friday the 13th instead.

I'm not a big fan of Friday the 13th but I will watch it for Jared. I think Kripke and the CW should seriously place a Supernatural commercial in the prviews like I've seen some shows do at the theaters. It would be great exposure for the show while Jared gets some great exposure as well. Friday the 13th has a huge loyal fanbase, I'm glad he got this role.

He is doing something that is not horror that comes out before this movie even will. Also he has gotton praise by critics for his work in that drama so there really isnt a need to say that he shouldnt do horror. I think he has a good balance going, and this is just going to give him a lot of exposure to people who dont know how cool Jared is yet.

dont normal watch horror but if jareds there so am i
boy is a talented actor wish him luck

sounds like a good movie, but i wish jared would do something not involving horror, i just can't imagine myself seeing the moving and thinking sam winchester-(
